Local news The Enbridge debate January 23, 2012 If there is only one thing you can do to help protect wildlife in the province this year - get involved in debate on the Enbridge Northern Gateway Project as public hearings start this month. Young hawk down January 10, 2012 A young sharp-shinned hawk must have been rescued by a guardian angel in November 2011. Her significant injuries sustained from flying into a window appeared to be critical at first, but almost a month later she made a miraculous recovery and was released to fly home. The Tale of Two Barred Owls December 5, 2011 Although Wild ARC sees many owls throughout the year, most are adults or older juveniles. This year however - two young Barred Owls - still of nesting age, were brought into care a week apart in June 2011. Their five month journey in care involved learning how to fly and hunt before they were released together on November 25. Two years was too long for one Wild ARC patient November 1, 2011 After almost two years in care with specialized training, a young red-tailed hawk was finally scheduled for release - but she decided to leave early on her own just days before... But thankfully months later - with a recent report this week - we hear of her successful hunting escapades in the area. Western Canada’s newest film festival, Paws and Claws, makes its debut October 31, 2011 A new and innovative film festival showcasing local wildlife-inspired short films and documentaries, The Paws and Claws Film Festival, presented by the BC SPCA’s Wild Animal Rehabilitation Centre, (Wild ARC) debuts today.
